The key players of the Spanish television get together to fight the giants from overseas. Mediaset España, Altresmedia, and TVE are creating an axis to bring to life a common platform so as to compete on the small screen international market, and especially to block the growth of big powers like Netflix, Sky, and others. The goal is to create and develop content that can then be distributed, offering a package that can satisfy the Spanish public by excluding from the domestic market American giants such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon, and Sky.
After months of negotiations, the three Spanish broadcasters have decided to create a joint project to expand the offer of free TV content and then increase the development of digital and online content.
The Spanish market is, with no doubt, one of the most important in the world of the audiovisual industry: having an open field in Spain would open the doors to a potentially huge pool of viewers, considering all the Spanish-speaking countries in Central and South America. Spanish TV is, therefore, trying in every possible way to protect their share in the market, nipping in the bud any attempt of invasion from the big Americans.
