After the anglo-italian series I Medici, Rai Fiction continues to push on the international level, through an agreement with French and German public televisions.
Rai, FranceTv and ZDF signed an agreement on two new projects.
The aim is to create a European quality product able to compete on an international scale with Otts. During the Prix Italia in Capri, Rai Fiction Director Eleonora Andreatta announced the creation of two new series which will air in 2019, Leonardo and La Città Eterna.
Leonardo tells the story of the Renaissance genius in 8 episodes, each based on a work of the artist. It will be directed by Frank Spotnitz, who already created I Medici series. The merge of the 3 National TVs allowed to guarantee an almost 30 million budget for the series. La Citta Eterna will be a dark thriller set in Rome of ‘la dolce vita’, focused on the murder of a young actress.
Rai will lead these two projects. In fact, according to the agreement the new partners will meet one time every two months to confront each other with each one leading the proposed projects. The partnership will not stop here: Rai Fiction director wishes to cover contemporary and science fiction issues in the future.
In the last two years there were numerous ambitious international works branded Rai Fiction. The two series will be together with the long-anticipated My brilliant friend, produced in collaboration with HBO and Tim Vision. Presented to the 75th Venice Film Festival, it will air also in the US reiterating the international success of the Elena Ferrante’s book.
