Diversity and Inclusion
For MIA, inclusion represents a shared value for both the staff and the event applicants. MIA committed itself for 2023 edition to fully, meaningfully and without any sort of exclusion, heeding the needs, expectations, and interests of the stakeholders and participants in the event, promoting an inclusive account for the individuals and companies involved. MIA ensures everyone feels represented and welcomed regardless of socioeconomic or cultural status, religious belief, geographical origin, ethnicity, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Ethical Behavior. MIA forbids any form of bullying, discrimination, or harassment carried out in person or through physical or electronic communication, both within its staff and among the market participants. For the first time in 2022 (renewed also for 2023), MIA adhered to the Women in Film, TV, and Media Italy Rules and Ethical Behavior in the Audiovisual Field, a prevention tool against sexual harassment, acts of intimidation, and any form of discrimination, gender violence, and body shaming in the workplace or study venue, to protect the personal dignity of male and female workers and male and female students of the audiovisual sector.
Raising awareness toward diversity and inclusion. MIA adopts a corporate policy to protect the representation of diverse cultures and genders; MIA agenda aims to promote gender parity while confronting the existing prejudices that exist across the world of multimedia. The organization strives to encourage and incentivize cultural change through the positive and diversified representation of women on screen and behind the camera.
Diversity and Inclusion Policy. MIA is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and gender equality in its activities and in the whole audiovisual industry. This is in line with the principles of equality and cultural diversity and the need to ensure that the industry and the content on offer are representatives of society.
Diversity and inclusion at MIA can be defined as:
equal on-screen and off-screen representation of diversity in society;
equal representation of diversity and inclusion in the stories presented among the Co-Production Market and Pitching Forum categories;
equal representation of diversity and inclusion in panels composition;
equal representation of diversity and inclusion in content showcases.
D&I Award for Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum Projects. Renewed for the second year in a row, and organized in collaboration with Women in Film, Television & Media Italia (WIFTMI), MIA hosts this year the second edition of the WIFTMI AWARD, which will be assigned to a scripted Italian project officially selected within the Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum of the Animation, Drama, and Film Divisions. WIFTMI offers to the winning projects/producers editorial advice, provided by WIFTMI members working in the field of development and production of audiovisual products, and will be awarded to the project having the greatest potential to be realized based on criteria related to the elimination of gender inequality, positive representation, equal representation, diversity, and inclusion. MIA aims to help create connections between Italian productions and the international market, regarding inclusion issues through the WIFTMI AWARD.
