The Walt Disney Company Investor Day was held yesterday – December 10, 2020 – webcast on the company website.
On this occasion, the major announced its new projects and presented some decisions: Disney will launch Star, its new general entertainment brand for a more adult target in February 2021. The launch should take place on 23 February 2021, in these territories: Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; other launches are set for the following months (in Latin America, for example, Star will be launched in June). In enriching the Disney + offer, the monthly price of the streaming service rises to € 8.99 per month. The “Star” category will include titles such as Kingsman, Alien, Modern Family, Family Guy, Planet of the Apes, The Shape of Water.
Also, Disney announced 10 series scheduled for the Star Wars universe, 10 series for the Marvel universe and 15 series for the Disney and Pixar Animation universe which will all debut on Disney +.
Among the most significant titles and related news introduced at the event there are these announcements: Raya and the Last Dragon will be released simultaneously in cinemas and on Disney + on March 5, 2021; David Lowery’s live action Peter Pan & Wendy and Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio with Tom Hanks will be released directly on Disney +; Luca (the next Pixar film set in Italy) will be released in June 2021; the new Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford confirms the release in July 2022; the new film Star Wars Rougue Squadron will be directed by Patty Jenkins and will be released in 2023 while the production of a Star Wars feature film written and directed by Taika Waititi and a new Marvel film on The Fantastic 4 has been confirmed. Walt Disney President of Production Sean Bailey also presented Cruella, Jungle Cruise, the Lion King prequel and The Little Mermaid.
