ANICA and APA promoted the research “Italian series and films on foreign markets: circulation and economic value,” carried out in collaboration with eMedia research institute and supported by ITA-Italian Trade Agency as part of MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo 2023.
The key role played by international co-productions, the driving force behind the foreign circulation of Italian audiovisual titles, is made clear by the research.
Four factors have led to growth in production volumes and foreign circulation between 2017 and 2022: increased demand for titles on a global basis; market entry of global VoD operators; tax credit; and foreign capital market entry.
However, the impact of these elements will tend to diminish in the coming years, the confrontation between the operators and the Institutions will be fundamental, in order to continue to support the strengthening of the Italian audiovisual industry’s production and distribution capacities by favoring the growth of the economic and cultural value that the sector can bring to Italy in the international context.
