Banijay U.K. has unveiled the acquisition of The Forge, the company specializing in scripted production. The Forge’s work includes Marriage, starring Sean Bean, Help, starring Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham, and Becoming Elizabeth. The main objective of the acquisition is to strengthen Banijay U.K.’s scripted production by increasing the number of its related labels. In addition, the acquisition also includes a first look agreement with Banijay Rights.
Through the acquisition, Banijay has secured several major projects for streaming platforms. These include The Buccaneers for Apple TV+, scheduled to launch on Nov. 8, the series to be released in 2024 on Disney+ Shardlake, a historical detective story by Stephen Butchard, and Generation Z by Ben Wheatley (The Meg II, Sightseers, Kill List) for Channel 4.
George Faber, founder of The Forge, commented on the deal, “We are ambitious for the next phase of our growth and believe Banijay’s excellent distribution arm, production expertise, management team, and global reach will help us chart an exciting course into the future.”
