Between June and July 2020, European TV recorded a significant increase in commissions for new programs, especially for unscripted productions.
As reported in an analysis of the company Ampere Analysis, the demands for this particular type of production increased due to shorter processing times and the possibility of being on air faster. The analysis company points out that the boom corresponds to seasonal peaks, but the increase in production is still significant.
In particular, in Italy in July 2020, 73 commissions were recorded compared to 35 in the previous year, an increase of more than 100% compared to the previous year. Rai has commissioned 42, of which 14 for the Rai Play platform. Discovery Italia follows with 20 titles.
France has the highest number of titles commissioned, 144 against 94 in the previous year (a lower increase compared to Italy, by 50%). Spain recorded 48 new commissions compared to the 22 of the past year, with a percentage increase practically identical to French TV
