Barbie topped the charts again this week and brought home a brilliant new result. The live action based on Mattel’s famous doll, released just three weeks ago, has broken through the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office. The record also concerns the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, who became the first woman in film history to record this figure. In Italy, this week’s box office is 6,459,199 euros, followed by Meg 2: The Trench, another Warner Bros-distributed film, just released in theaters, which earns 2,288,864 euros. It drops to third place Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One with a gross of 628,875 euros.
The latest episode of the Indiana Jones saga, from third place drops to fifth, earning € 260,457. Elemental, remains stationary in fourth place with a gross of € 347,350, while in sixth position we find About My Father, the comedy starring Robert De Niro, which grosses € 141,617 this week.
Moving up the rankings by two positions are the animated films: Tenkū no shiro Rapyuta, Hayao Miyazaki’s classic, which rises from ninth place to seventh with a gross of € 79,433, while Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, the film distributed by Universal, moves up from tenth position to eighth, earning € 76,025.
Haunting of the Queen Mary falls to ninth place, grossing € 70,467, followed in tenth position by the film released on July 27 Have You Ever Been Afraid?, which closes this week’s ranking with a gross of € 60,380.
