Something is happening on the Canadian audiovisual scene, and it is of enormous dimensions. Canadian production and distribution company Blue Ant Media, a leader in factual and unscripted content, has acquired MarbleMedia. The former has been in business since 2011 and its programs include “Canada’s Drag Race” for World of Wonder and Crave; “Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks” for Prime Video; the documentary series “Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies” for Peacock; and the show “See No Evil” for Investigation Discovery. The second, founded in 2001, is known for the “Blown Away” glass-blowing competitions series offered by Netflix, the “Drink Masters” series, also for Netflix, and Discovery’s “A Cut Above” chainsaw racing series.

The merger also includes subsidiaries of both companies-Blue Ant Studios, Saloon Media and Look Mom! Productions, as well as MarbleMedia’s London-based distribution companies Blue Ant International and Distribution360. The only production company that will remain outside the entity is Beach House Pictures, Blue Ant’s Singapore-based production company, which will remain independent. The other companies, however, will merge into the larger studio in order to create a competitive player in the three “target markets,” the U.S., Canadian, and European markets.

Mark Bishop, CO-CEO and Executive Producer of MarbleMedia, says the two companies have a “shared sense of values and vision for the future,” and have jumped at the chance to “kick-start” the industry with a new studio that is based in Canada but wants to “bring content to the world on a larger scale.”
