The creation of Global Cinema Federation has been announced at CineEurope in Barcelona: a union of eleven exhibitor chains and two international associations representing commercial interests of the entire sector. Mexican group Cinépolisis leading the federation and its CEO Alejandro Ramirez Magaña stated: “We decided to establish thisassociation to give substance to an inclusive organisation that is able to speak on behalf of a large share of the global cinema exhibition community”.
The founding movie theatre chains of GCF (operating on more than 90 territoriesalong with the associations) are AMC, Cinemark, Cineplex, Cinépolis, Cineworld, CGV, Event Cinemas, Les Cinémas Gaumont-Pathé, Regal Cinemas, Vue International and Wanda Cinemas; NATO and UNIC are the founding associations. Anti-piracy, accessibility rules, studio and writer community relationships, international trade and foreign investments are the key priorities of the group. Membership is extended to exhibitors with more than 250 screens and to all the national trade bodies.
