On June 30, the European Writers Club (EWC), a new initiative promoted by several European film agencies, with the support of the European Union, was unveiled to increase opportunities for collaboration on high-level series projects across the continent.
The European Writers Club is led by Denmark’s Thomas Gammeltoft, former partner and executive producer of production and distribution company True Content Entertainment and CEO of the Copenhagen Film Fund from 2013 to 2019. Nawell Amour, of the European Producers Club, will assist Gammeltoft in managing the initiative.
The national film bodies supporting the initiative are Screen Ireland, the Estonian Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, the Nordisk Film & TV Fund, the National Film School of Denmark, the Nordic Writers Associations, the Galician funding agency AGADIC, and Danish broadcaster TV2. EWB will be administered by Vision Denmark.
In its first year, the EWC will host three sessions, each consisting of two one-week residencies, as well as events and master classes reserved for its members. The first, the Boosting Ideas Session, will be led by Le Groupe Ouest and will take place in Copenhagen Oct. 23-28, before moving to Tallinn, where it will be held Dec. 5-10. The session will be open to ten writers and ten broadcasters.
The second, the Boosting Concepts Session, will be curated by TorinoFilmLab‘s Series Lab program. The first camp will take place from April 11-16, 2023 in Dublin, while the second will take place in Galicia from May 30 to June 5. Writers and creators will be paid for attending both sessions.
Finally, a special seminar session, titled Boosting Broadcasters, will serve as a meeting place for public and private broadcasters to network and discuss market trends.
