The opening ceremony for the Festival del Cinema Italiano in Brazil was held on the evening of November 3, an event which has become a regular appointment for the Brazilian public, as well as a chance for our film industry to expand in all South America.

 

 

Promoted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Brazil in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, this year the festival can also vaunt a collaboration with ANICA, with which it will present ITALIAN SCREENS, a new project aimed at boosting the cooperation between Brazil and Italy as well as improving the distribution of Italian films in the country.

 

 

Opening the festival, I fratelli De Filippo by Sergio Rubini, a biopic on Eduardo, Peppino and Titina De Filippo, which premiered in 2021 at the Rome Film Fest.

 

 

In addition to this movie, other 16 titles have been selected for the Unreleased section, all movies which have been released in Italy between 2021 and 2022, among them also the Italian candidate for the Oscars, Nostalgia, by Mario Martone, as well as Dry by Paolo Virzì and The Hummingbird by Francesca Archibugi.

 

 

The second section, Retrospective, will present to its audience a selection of old Italian iconic movies, this year in particular the focus is on “divas of Italian cinema” and, among the chosen titles, Rome, Open City, starring Anna Magnani, The Pizza Triangle, starring Monica Vitti and The Miller’s Beautiful Wife, starring Sofia Loren.

 

 

All the movies will be available both on the official platform of the festival and in 49 theatres scattered in 38 cities all over Brazil free of charge until December 4.
