Freely, the new streaming platform that will allow British viewers to enjoy the best of UK public TV online, is scheduled to launch in 2024.
Freely promises a free service that will make available programming from the main UK public TV channels, BBC, Channel and Channel 5, as well as other free-to-air channels.
The platform will aim to bring public TV content into the future, ensuring a simpler and more straightforward experience. Freely will be managed by Everyone TV, the organisation already responsible for the free streaming platforms Freeview and Freesat and jointly controlled by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Jonhatan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV said in the official note: “(…)Our aim is to ensure that all viewers have access to a free, aggregated live TV experience that champions British content and is delivered in a way that suits audience needs and preferences. Every one of us should be able to share in the best of British ideas and creativity on TV.”
Tim Davie, General Director of BBC, added: “Ensuring the universality of public-service television is sustained into the future is of paramount importance to the UK and all its public service broadcasters.”
