The General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture publishes the call for contributions for the programming of research and experimental arthouse films in 2021.
The call, with a budget of € 6,000,000, is aimed at cinema companies, with one or more theatres.
In order to obtain arthouse status, the cinemas must have screened arthouse films in 2021 for at least 60% of the film projections made on an annual basis. The share is reduced to 51% for cinemas with one or two cinema screens and to 55% for cinemas with three or more screens operating in municipalities of up to 100,000 inhabitants. At least 35% of these quotas must consist of screenings of Italian and European arthouse films.
Requests for qualification as an arthouse cinema and the simultaneous application for a grant for the activity carried out in 2021 can be submitted via the online IT platform of the Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual Media from 2 May 2022 until 31 May 2022.
