The issue of sustainability is increasingly felt in the festival system, so much so that AFIC – Associazione Festival Italiani di Cinema, in March 2022, had drafted together with its members the “Green Festival Guide,” a document to orient this type of event toward the ecological transition.
Following the Green Training, two days dedicated to the ecological best practices of film festivals, organized in conjunction with the 2022 MIA, AFIC produced a five-part pilot podcast entitled Green Screen – Sustainable Festivals and How to Create Them, available on Spotify. The initiative, which was created in collaboration with Radio Sapienza, addresses all the issues involved in creating and communicating festivals that aspire to be sustainable, and warns against greenwashing.
As Giorgio Gosetti, AFIC president, points out-“never formal but factual, the commitment to event sustainability cannot stop. Recent extreme and unpredictable weather events remind us that we need to change our habits quickly and with resolution. But without raising awareness among young people, broadening the scope of the debate, the battle is lost at the start. I hope this podcast can be one more piece to the green mosaic we are building for the festivals of the present and future.”
