During the third day of the International Audiovisual Market, the event “L’internazionalizzazione dei documentari italiani e l’accordo Rai Com – Arte” was held. The focus of the meeting was on RAICOM’s co-production agreement with ARTE and RSI: a pioneering contract for the internationalisation of Italian products.
Speakers included Madeleine Avramoussis (ARTE GEIE), Suzanne Biermann (ARTE GEIE), David Bogi (Rai Com), Stefania Casini (Bizef Produzione9), Duilio Giammaria (Rai-Arte co-production coordinator). Speakers during the event showcased various clips from projects co-produced by their respective companies: these are some of the products designed to make the Italian documentary activity international.
David Bogi said “Let’s try to involve as much as possible also independent Italian producers and in the last two years we have started to work also with European partners”. Madeleine Avramoussis, ARTA’s commissioning editor, echoed him by confirming “What we signed with Rai Com is not a distribution contract but a co-production contract”. From the same company, Suzanne Biermann gave an example to underline the importance of the joint venture with Rai Come “We are working on a production in Palermo and it is very interesting for what is happening in Europe and for the issue of migrants”. An example of an independent producer who has benefited from the framework agreement is Stefania Casini “I am an example of the possibility for independent producers to enter the framework of Rai Com’s agreement with ARTE and RSI”. Duilio Giammaria concluded the panel by pointing out the need and desire on the part of professionals to create a round table for documentary filmmakers.
