A world-renowned destination for financing, producing and filming international high-profile screen projects, the UK film industry has a strong track record in attracting inward investment. This debate aims to offer an occasion to navigate the UK film financing and regulatory landscape and to uncover the opportunities of co-producing with the UK.
Samantha Perahia, Head of Production UK for the British Film Commission, will lead the audience through the commercial mechanisms, regulatory support and sources of finance available to those looking to produce in the UK, while Andrea Calderwood (BAFTA winner for Best British Film for The Last King of Scotland and, among her most recent credits, a UK-Spanish-German-French-Cuban co-production: Yuli by Icíar Bollaín), Natalie Coleman, (Investment Manager at Head Gear Films, one of the world’s largest indie financers, investing in around 60 projects a year), and Emily Morgan (Outstanding Debut BAFTA and BIFA for Breakthrough Producer for I Am Not a Witch, a UK-French-Zambian-German co-production that premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2017, directed by first-time director Rungano Nyoni) will share their experiences on finding stories, and sharing talent, expertise, risks and creative visions with International and European co-producers.
