Netflix anticipates International Women’s Day by allocating the first $5 million to programmes aimed at developing and supporting women in the entertainment industry.
The streaming giant will invest in the next five years through a $100 million fund to promote the inclusion of minorities. “In the next five years – says a note from the company – we will invest $100 million in organizations known for their ability to successfully include under-represented communities in the television and film industry and Netflix programs aimed at locating, training and directing the career of emerging international talents”
Bela Bajaria, Vice President of Netflix’s Global TV announces the first $5 million of the $20 million planned for 2021 of Netflix Inclusive Creativity Fund will be earmarked for programs aimed at identifying emerging talented women.
Specifically, this will happen through Netflix and third parties programs, to support a wide range of initiatives. From workshops to teach aspiring authors and producers to present their creative vision to provide opportunities for shadowing in productions that allow women to acquire invaluable direct experience in order to have a real voice in chapter.
Some of the initial programs for women we will be supporting around the world include:
Collectif 50/50, a year-long, national mentorship program for aspiring women creatives of various ages and backgrounds in France, including a series of masterclasses from 30 industry leaders.
Into the Wild, a one-year mentorship program for young female filmmakers from film schools across Germany, including a script writing camp and a final pitch at well-known German festivals including Filmfestival Munich and the Max Ophüls-Festival.
Women in Post, a new eight-month program that builds on the Netflix and Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women, will provide mentorship and training within post-production to women creatives from across Canada.
Narrative Short Film Incubator for Women of Color, an incubator program by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers for Latinx women and women of color to produce short film projects through dedicated funding, production support and mentorship.
