Time for a change at Disney’s. Bob Iger, who’s been Disney’s CEO for 15 years, has officially left the position to Bob Chapek, former president of Disney parks, experiences and products.
Iger will now be assuming the role of executive chairman until the end of the contract, on 31st December 2021, leading creative activities of the company. After the success of the new Disney activities targeting consumers and the recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, it seems that it was Iger himself who believed it was the optimal time for a transition towards a new board led by Chapek. With Iger, Disney has lived a dramatic expansion with the acquisition of Pixar, in 2006, for $5 billion; Marvel Entertainment in 2009, for $4 billion; Lucasfilm, in 2012 for $4 billion and finally 21st Century Fox in March 2019, for over $71 billion, representing the largest acquisition to date.
