There are some news in the Box Office worldwide this year, none of the top 3 global highest-grossing movies till today are sequel, this is the first time this has happened since 2001. Despite Barbie and Super Mario Bros. Movie are movies that derive from well-known brands, they can be considered Original as Oppenheimer.
In 2001 the films that gave life to 2 of the best known and most appreciated film franchises in the Fantasy world were released: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring. In the following years the titles will return several times together with other famous film sagas such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Marvel Film and also animated films like The Ice Age. In just over 20 years, a small minority of original films have topped the box office charts: The Dark Knight in 2008, Avatar in 2009 and Frozen in 2013.
During the years of the pandemic we find 3 Chinese films and one Japanese among the top global grossers: The Eight Hundred and Demon Slayer – The Mugen Train first place and second place in 2020,The Battle of Lake Changjin and Hi, Mom at the second and third preceded by Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
