The 37th edition of the Premio Solinas concluded in Rome with two evening events: on December 10 at Cinema Troisi with a tribute to Franco Solinas with the screening of the film “Mr. Klein” and the presentation of the finalists, and on December 12 with the award ceremony for the winners of the second phase of the Premio Franco Solinas held at Casa Dante.
The Jury of the second phase of the Premio Solinas is composed of Roberto De Paolis, Leonardo Fasoli, Fulvio Firrito, Federico Pontiggia, Paola Randi, Maddalena Ravagli and Monica Zapelli.
Franco Solinas Award for Best Screenplay of 8,000 euros.
“Due Amici” by Giulia Cosentino and Pierfrancesco Li Donni
This is the motivation: “For the strength, truth and delicacy with which it tells the story of its young protagonists. The friendship between Desirèe and Daniel, without ever falling into rhetoric or stereotype, illuminates a marginal Palermo, in which the two youngsters move with the naturalness of those who have never known a different life, and succeeds, despite the particularity of the context, in outlining the portrait of a generation in which friendship can be stronger than love, and the struggle to grow up meets the struggle to survive“.
Claudia Sbarigia Scholarship of 1,000 euros
“La traversata” by Andrea Paolo Massara and Cristian Patané
This is the motivation: “For the portrait of a young woman who seeks with strength, desperation and obstinacy a meaning to her life and to what happens around her, merging, with the naturalness of a girl of her generation, the sacred and the profane, the most traditional spirituality and the call of life. Matilde alternating between strength and fragility, confidence and bewilderment, traverses head-on an intense and interesting tale, but one that has yet to find the strength of its protagonist“.
Special Mention
“Il Migliore” by Alessandro Nelson Garofalo
This is the motivation: “For the ability to lightly and passionately construct a success story set in the world of poker, enfranchised by ludopathy and linked to crime. The biographical derivation is at times coercive, the sentimental relationship suffers from some stereotypes and the voice over should be calmed down, but these are vices of form compared to the strength of the protagonist, a professional gambler rarely contemplated by our cinema“.
Annamaria Granatello, Director of the Premio Solinas, disclosed, “It has been an extraordinary year: a total of 1209 projects were sent to the 6 Premio Solinas competitions, which were evaluated with great rigor by 80 Jurors (screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, editors, critics). It is a very strong emotion to work with the professionals of Italian cinema who take responsibility for unearthing talent and innovating the creative audiovisual industry. It is an emotion that has pervaded this 37th edition, which started in Rome in July with a focus on TV seriality, peaked in La Maddalena with Higher Education Labs, screenings and conferences, and closed here in Rome with a tribute to Franco Solinas and with a big party, supported by Allianz, that consolidated the common commitment of all the partners, whom I strongly thank, in support of Italian audiovisuals“.
Francesca Solinas, Honorary President of Premio Solinas, comments, “It is important to emphasize how fundamental audiovisual creation is in these difficult times of transition to a new way of understanding the world and life, in the sign of the life and works of Franco Solinas. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who are committed with the Solinas Award to renewal and to designing a better future“.
