SAT-CAB regulation, proposed by VP of European Commission Andrus Ansip, has been mostly rejected by European Parliament, with great relief of the major part of audio-visual industry, against the regulation since its very proposal.
SAT-CAB would allows broadcasters to distribute European contents in each of the 28 States of the Union through their online catchup and simulcast services before the theatrical or TV first-runs in their own countries. Italian motion picture association ANICA expressed the opposition to SAT-CAB since the beginning and commented the decision of the Parliament: “this is the evidence that the majority wants a Europe made up of major players in the audiovisual sector; a strong and competitive creative content industry; and a digital market that is dynamic and not made up of passive consumers”
SAT-CAB is now in discussion in the European Council of Ministers.
