The distribution, streaming and production company Mubi has acquired the international rights (except for Italy and North America) to Sofia Coppola’s new film ‘Priscilla’. The company also has two other co-productions that, like Priscilla, will have their world premiere at the Venice Film Festival: Memory by Micheal Franco and Gasoline Rainbow, premiering in the Orizzonti section.
All rights in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Latin America, Benelux and Turkey, as well as planned theatrical releases in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Latin America, Belgium and the Netherlands will be held by Mubi. Sales for the other acquired nations will be handled by The Match Factory, which was acquired by Mubi in 2022.
Coppola brings Priscilla Beaulieu’s story to the big screen based on her 1958 autobiography ‘Elvis and Me’, co-written with Sandra Harmon. From the encounter with Elvis and the long courtship to the marriage and the stormy years that surrounded it, the most significant moments of their relationship will be explored, but not only that. We will also get to know the teenage Priscilla, diving into her early life before she became a Presley. The director, as she revealed in an interview with Vogue, was “fascinated by the incredible details contained in Priscilla’s memoir” and tried to “imagine what it must have been like to grow up in that world through her eyes”.
The film will star Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Beaulieu, Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley and Dagmara Dominczyk.
Produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment Pictures, a Fremantle company, Coppola for American Zoetrope and Youree Henley, financed by the Fremantle Group. The film will be distributed by A24 in the US and by Vision Distribution in Italy.
