The series Those About To Die by Roland Emmerich, director of collossals such as Independence Day, has been acquired by Prime Video in several European territories and will arrive in Italy in 2024.
The series, which was also partly filmed in Italy, in the Cinecittà studios, will consist of ten episodes and will star Anthony Hopkins as Emperor Vespasian, Iwan Rheon as Tenax, Tom Hughes as Titus Flavius, Sara Martins as Cala, Gabriella Pession as Antonia and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Viggo.
The story, set in Rome in 79 A.D., is inspired by the book of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix, and tells the story of a city and its rich and bored population in constant pursuit of power, passing through corruption, greed and entertainment with chariot races and gladiator fights.
The first season is scripted by Robert Rodat, former Oscar nominee for the screenplay of ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Turkey, Andorra, Monaco, Luxembourg and Belgium.As for the US, streaming platform Peacock has secured the rights.
The production is by Centropolis, Hollywood Gang and Street Entertainment. The executive producers are Roland Emmerich, Harald Kloser, Gianni Nunnari, Kloiber, Martin Moszkowicz, Berben, Jonas Bauer, Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, Charles Holland, Kreuzpaintner and Robert Rodat.
