The film El Paraiso by Enrico Maria Artale wins two awards in the Orizzonti section, the second section of the 2023 Venice Film Festival dedicated to new cinema trends. Enrico Maria Artale wins the Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay while the Orizzonti Award for Best Female Performance is awarded to Colombian actress Margarita Rosa de Francisco.
In the last days of the festival the film received the Arca CinemaGiovani award as Best Italian Film in Venice. The human and family relationships of the drama are represented in all their complexity. The conflicts, the moments of fragility and tenderness manage to portray the relationship between mother and her almost forty-year-old son, who will be shocked by the arrival in the Roman suburbs of a young Colombian woman involved in drug trafficking.
The protagonists of the story are portrayed by Edoardo Pesce and Margarita Rosa de Francisco.
In 2022 El Paraiso was presented in the project phase at the Film Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum and in the work-in-progress phase at What’s Next Italy, a program of the MIA Market.
Produced by Ascent Film, Young Film and Rai Cinema, the film will be released in theaters by the Bolognese distribution company I Wonder Pictures.
