Venezia75 reveals for 2018 many surprises, a review increasingly open from cinema to TV, not forgetting the Ott.
First day for the 75. Venice International Film Festival (August 29-September 8, 2018) inaugurated by the highly anticipated First Man by Damien Chazelle, director and former Oscar-winner for La La Land, with Ryan Goslin and Claire Foy. The star of the first day of the festival is Vanessa Redgrave, a milestone in British and international cinema, winner of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. Another film awaited for the first day is On my skin by Alessio Cremonini – in competition in the Orizzonti section -, not only because it tells the story of the last days of Stefano Cucchi’s life (played by Alessandro Borghi), but also because it is a Netflix production. In fact, this year there are several films in Venice75 that do not belong exclusively to the cinema.
The presence of the Ott (Over the top), which at Cannes had set up a real controversy, determining then the exclusion of projects, seems to have become almost a strength for Venice75. In fact, 75. Venice International Film Festival reserves several novelties, concerning both the cinema and the TV and Ott. Netflix brings to Laguna 5 films – The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, 22 July, Rome, On My Skin, The Other Face of the Wind – and a documentary, They’ll love me when I’m dead. Amazon, in addition to presenting Mike Leigh’s new film, Peterloo, will compete in the official section with Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria. For its part, HBO will bring to Venice75 the preview of the long-awaited TV series My brilliant friend, inspired by the namesake literary saga by Elena Ferrante.
