In order to strengthen the distribution strategies of Italian films in foreign markets and support their commercial circulation outside the Italian borders, the General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) has established a Fund of for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture (MiC) has established a Fund of €2,100,000.00 for the year 2023, undergoing a considerable increase compared to last year, when the fund was 1.2 million.
This Fund is specifically aimed at supporting the distribution and acquisition of exploitation rights, distribution and the acquisition of theatrical and Internet exploitation rights by local independent foreign distribution companies.
The Film Distribution Fund, which has been active since 2018, will be distributed in three rounds of €700,000 each, expiring in increments on June 30, 2023, September 30, 2023, and December 31, 2023. What is new this year is the participation, for a total of 450 thousand euros, in financing the sale of internet rights for the exploitation of Italian films abroad. Again, reference will be made to distant sessions and a maximum contribution of 15 thousand euros per country of distribution is envisaged.
