The XXIII edition of the FCE – European Film Festival, which will take place in Lecce from November 12 to November 19, has decided to pay a special tribute to Ukrainian cinema.

 

 

This festival is organized by “Art Promotion” cultural association and is part of the Apulia Cinefestival Network, namely the Apulia Film Commission and Apulia Region film festivals network, moreover is realized thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture- Cinema and Audiovisual General Direction, Municipality of Lecce.

 

 

The FCE is part of the Association of Italian film festivals, prides itself on being sponsored by the European Parliament and on collaborating with the Experimental Center of Cinematography, S.N.G.C.I., FIPRESCI, S.N.C.C.I., the Italian Short Film Center, Salento University and, furthermore, is recognized as an event of National interest by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism.

 

 

“It seems only right to us to show our support and closeness to Ukraine – said Alberto La Monica, art director of the European Film Festival – We deem highly relevant the contribution that European cinema can have in terms of promoting values such as peace and solidarity among nations, the process of European integration and a renewed human rights culture”.

 

 

The tribute will consist of a selection of 5 movies and various discussions with directors, actors, producers as well as with Molodist International Film Festival Kyiv director, Andriy Khalpakhchi, who said “Molodist International Film Festival is grateful to the European Film Festiaval and, personally grateful to Alberto La Monica for this opportunity to show a Focus on contemporary Ukrainian cinema as an act of solidarity to the Ukrainian nation”.

 

 

In particular, during the day of 18th November the event European cinema for Ukraine will take place, which will be attended by all the Ukrainian festival guests, directors Solomiia Tomashchuk, Andriy Kokura, Maryan Bushan, the actress Anastasia Karpenko, producer Olga Matat and, of course, Molodist International Film Festival director Andriy Khalpakhchi.

 

 

This is a great way for the audience to come in contact with a cinema so full of young talents.

 

 

In addition, among the movies competing for the Ulivo d’Oro, there will be How is Katia? by Christina Tynkevych, presented in preview in Italy by Anastasia Karpenko and Olga Matat. The movie tells the dramatic story of a woman who has lost hersef.

 

 

All the titles in the program:

 

Between Us, by Solomiia Tomashcuk, her first thriller movie, presented in preview in Italy, which recounts the strange friendship of two women divided between what’s right and what they must do.

 

Luxemburg, Luxemburg, by Antonio Lukich, which premiered during Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section, follows two twin brothers in their journey back to their father’s house who lives, indeed, in Luxemburg.

 

Pokut’, first feature film by Andrii Kokura, a nineteen years old skater, which was already awarded at Molodist International Film Festival and will be presented in preview in Italy. The movie tells the story of a young woman who, after losing her mother, decides to try reach out to her father.

 

Rhino, a Germany, Ukraine and Poland co-production, distributed in Italy by Movie Inspired, directed by Oleh Sentsov, which revolves around a juvenile offender and his life in the Ukrainian provinces in the 90s.

 

Lastly, Snipers. The White Raven, by Maryan Bushan, presented in preview in Italy and distributed by Imago Company. Set in the Donbas region in 2013 the movie tells the story of a former physics professor who decided to join a group of snipers to get his revenge on the invadors.
